what parts are needed? pump change/injectors/seals etc etc
how to tune it ? different afr's?
what to do if e85 is not e85 i.e variance from different suppliers or mixed with remains of unleaded left in petrol tank.

Probably pump/injectors and fuel lines will need to be changed as ethanol doesn't like rubber.

You'll also get a lot worse fuel economy than you do now due to the fact that it's calorific value is so low that you have to pump in loads more of it than you do normal fuel.

You will need to lean out the entire fuel map as well as stoichiometric on E85 is a lot leaner than 14.7 so it will look a bit wierd.

And then it's a case of ramping up the timing due to the better knock resistance.

Guys, I have been tuning with E85 for ages here in Australia. Get excited about E85... its an AWESOME fuel. Lateish model vehicles are mo problem on pumps and fuel lines. As long as you use current efi hose , no issues. I have been using itfor months with no issues, and have made monster gains. Dont get hung up on AFR's... if you use lambda you will know that afrisbased on lambda. Hence, if you use petrol AFR, then use similar AFR for E85 . E85 stoichemtric is 9.5 : 1 , but I just use the petrol AFR to tune E85 definitely likes to use leaner AFR than petrol for max safe power eg 12.5 :1 AFR. The cooling effects of E85 are dramatic, and the octane rating is around 112. Definitely use it.... you willmake MONSTER power gains.... and the engine runs so much cooler with dramatically reduced knock.

nice one mike. is there any do's and don'ts ? i.e what would happen if i put e85 in my tank that has some regular petrol (gas) left in it?
or would you do a couple of tanks of e85 without driving it too hard then get ya tune done?
is getting the ethanol content the same critical at each fill up? if so what would happen afr's would be out?
as you could get slight varience from different suppliers etc

lee ,

the ethanol content is 85% (at the pump) so no need to worry there . as for mixing super and e85 , it really depends on how aggressively its mapped .

Its important to run either one or the other !! You cant just run E85 without recalibration. I found that you need roughly 25-30% more E85 by volume . I just went straight to 860cc Siemens injectors on my Evo 8 , and it didnt need much tinkering. Those injectors were pretty well maxxed out at 24 psi. It went from 240kw ( Dyno Dynamics dyno) on ELF race fuel to 295 ( !! ) kw on the same boost on E85.

So dont mix fuels ! Important.
