View Full Version : Removing Pops and Bangs from E7 Ecu

Ok guys, a few weeks back I fitted a 7 ecu into a 6.

Copied over his ecutek maps, into a tephra 90550001 v5.10 rom as he wanted launch control, and wanted to see what all the fuss was about with pops and bangs.

Anyway everything worked well (once I replaced his BOV).

A couple of weeks later he said he liked the pops and bangs, but asked if I could remove them, as he was a little worried about his turbo popping, when he does the sprints.

So he came round, and I reset the ALS settings to the stock settings.

Removed the low load neg timing, and flashed it back to the car.

Starts car up, and it won't rev up past 4500rpm

So I check the rom, and can't see anything wrong with it.

Flash back in the rom that came off, and it works 100% as normal.

Flash back the edited version (no pops and bangs) and won't rev up again :confused1:

So flashed to an 8 rom (to blank ecu) and flash back to the no pops and bangs rom, still won't rev up

So I flashed to a stock 90550001 rom, and it was fine.

So I then made up a complete new rom, copying all his maps and settings over from his orignal 6 ecutek rom, into a fresh untouched 90550001 v5.10 rom, and flashed that in, still wouldn't rev up past 4500rpm :angry:

In the end I went through the rom, and changed every cell in the timing table 1 by 1 until I found the cell causing the issue.

Turned out to be the cell in the 10 colum, at 6000rpm.

If it was set any higher than -1° the car wouldn't rev up over 4500rpm.

So has anyone come across this problem before ?

And any idea's how to fix it ?

Thats odd Russ, never heard or seen that before unless its funky xml ?

Yep it's very weird.

Tried different xml's and made no difference.

When you flash it, does the checksum compare say there is a difference?

Yes it says there is a difference and then writes as normal.

1.41

I wonder if 1.41 is a bit buggy ??

Is the car local to you, could you try re flashing it with a earlier version?

About 30 mins away.

It's the only issue i've had with 1.41 so can't see it being that at fault.

After all i've used 1.41 to remove pops and bangs from my own ecu, and not had any issue's.

I you view it as raw data, by using the scaling hex 8 does it display OK? What is the static rev limint set to when it won't rev over 4500?

Next time I see the car I will double check it with Hex8.

I don't have a copy of the rom now, as I just kept editing the same rom till it would work, and then the laptop went flat so never saved it as such.

Stat rev limiter was and still is set to 5499 rpm.

I've had the same thing when I have forgotten to switch of the nlts. But if you found the cell surely it's down to a crazy XML addres?!

I thought that, but i've checked the xml and even copied over an XML I know is 10000% correct.

And it was still the same.
