Hi chaps,

Yesterday I plugged a Tactrix 1.3 cable into my VII and it read the ROM from the ecu no problem. The process was complete up to where the ROM needs a definition file to be displayed correctly.
I didn't have the correct definition file for this ROM at the time so, I cancelled the process and the ROM disappeared from my laptop screen. I've not been able to read the ECU since.
When I plug the Tactrix cable in, the PC recognises it without issue. I then click the 'Read' button and the pop up box appears but, it has no options in it. The 'Read' button on the pop up is also disabled. I've un-installed then re-installed EcuFlash (1.41), including removing any entries (keys) from the registry. Still the same result though.

Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance,

Paul

Just sorted it.

I un-installed it again and this time went through the whole registry, not just the reg keys to delete any traces of EcuFlash.
It seem sto be working now.

Well, it's happening again. If I try to read the ecu, the read pop up box appears as expected but, it isn't populated with model options to select...
Does any one have any idea how to stop this happening?
I'm guessing I'll need to uninstall EcuFlash again and remove all registry references?!

The machine I have Ecuflash (v1.41) installed on a Vista laptop. Is EcuFlash known to be flaky with Vista?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Paul,

Not had the problem with XP, Vista has a few issues with logging software, so I would not be surprized.

I've got a similar problem, have you tried reading from another car? Where do you have your ROM definition files?

I've had it happen with mine before as well but I usually just delete and re-install it and it works OK again.

Thanks chaps. I'll reinstall it again.

@burgers22; I have my ROM and definition files in separate directories on the C: drive. These aren't the same directories as EcuFlash defaults to but, I have mapped them and have no problem with the data in them.
Everything else in EcuFlash works as expected, it's just the read function that plays up.

Thats interesting. My ROM files and xmls are also not in the default directories, and I'd been thinking this could be an issue. Maybe try running with the defaults and see if it fixes it. I don't have my car so can't test it myself.

Why have you put the xmls in a different file?

When i'm downloading xmls, it's easier if the directory is in My documents, it's PITA to drill down to c:/programe file blah blah blah especially when the p0rn folder is in my docs ;)

They're just easier to find on this machine. :blushing:

Changed my meteadata file to the default and now it reads OK. I'm going to copy the read templates folder to my alternate xmls folder and see if this works.

Also had the blank/no read issue (many times).
Once you get it, you have to clear the registry of ant ecuflash pointers, and uninstall ecuflash and delete the openport folders.

Its a total PITA.

Some points to avoid the problem.
1. Use the same usb port for the cable always, dont swap ports.
2. When the PC is clean after the uninstall, re-install session, let the pc wizard install the cable driver ONCE ONLY, not every time you fireup the application.

I had this problem too, don't change the directories in the option menu.

Hi

I can confirm that copying the read templatesm folder to my own xmls folder lets me read as normal. It makes sense really as ECUflash needs to know how to read from each ECU via the info in the read xml.
