A couple of you may know about this problem I have with my car, but for most of you, let me summarize. Let's say I'm lining up for the 1/4 mile. I launch at 5000rpm as normal and as I launch I put my foot down a little more. I end up breaking traction and quickly in 1st gear I ping off my rev limiter at 7750rpm. As soon as I do that I shift into 2nd. What happens now is the engine just stutters and hardly picks up any speed for about 2-3 seconds. After that power comes back in and it comes back to normal again. If I don't touch the limiter it's not a problem.
I know, the easy solution is (stay away from the rev limiter) and if I had the slightest bit of driving skill I would do! This problem has plagued me for over a year though and I can't find what's causing it. Tonight I have done the fuel pump rewire to find out if that could solve it. One idea I had though might be that the car is overfuelling when I hit the limiter, meaning that when I drop into the next gear the cylinders are full of fuel and so don't fire properly until they have cleared.
If that's the case then would it be possible to change the rev limiter ignition cut into a fuel cut? That way it would stop the overfuelling. My only worry about that is that I'm thinking it might go dangerously lean if I ever touch the rev limiter.
Anyone have any thoughts on this one?
