View Full Version : Mapping out idle drop due to BOV

Guys,
Any tips on how to map out the dreaded idle drop when coming to a standstill at junctions etc? (vta bov being used although its as tight as a ducks bum)
Its worse when doing e.g. a 3 point turn and revs drop to say 400rpm whilst on off the throttle....what I notice it runs bloddy rich as hell during these few moments(blob blob blob) until it settles at approx 14.7
Any thoughts?
Have you done a base idle reset ?

Yep.....even if i activate the stepper now it only varies to within 50 -100rpm if that
Seems to run pig rich until the ecu corrects....

Pointless post but it lets me get my half a grand

How you reset it?? Doing this?
1. Get engine to operating temperature.
2. Operate the idle speed adjustment actuator in Evoscan.
3. Adjust the BISS on the throttle body until it idles at 850 rpm.
4. Release actuator.
5. Turn engine off, then disconnect battery for 30 seconds.
6. Reconnect battery and start engine.
Thanks
Cheers

have a play with the ISCV RPM/Demand tables.i had to play with mine as i had bad throttle hang when dropping to idle, but it should work in your case

Cheers John, sometimes I get a bit of that too.

Before you do anything its probably worth removing the ICV and giving it a good clean

Done that numerous times along with a good decoke of the whole TB Rich, new gaskets and all.

Can anyone confirm that more idle steps 'should' mean a more tighter and perhaps a more stable idle (control)?

any tips on getting them apart without rounding the screws, they are really soft ??

Yep soft indeed.
Only a few weeks ago took the head clean off one of the screws whilst screwing it back on but it seemed to do the trick ok though.
I then removed the whole TB for a good decoke and replaced the 3 x M4 screws with new stainless jobbies being careful not to overtighten them and stripping the ally threads in the process.

Just been checking and seems that I have an incorrect XML that shows these tables.....have you got one to hand?
The XML I have is the SD version below:

Don't worry about the XML being an SD version it makes no difference

Understand that John but I cant find the tables for rpm/demand on my current 0009 rom....unless I play with the previously posted up settings with regard to idle? (if that helps with my issue that is)

Still doing it worse than ever.......my idle is 100% now and best its been for a long while but now when coming to a stop or 3 point turns etc the revs drop seriously low, over fuel and then finally sit at a nice and constant 850 -900.
Have also set my idle load areas to 9' - 10' advance hoping it would help , which it did with regard to static idle but not the dredded drop of rpm scenario!
May just change my BOV to a push type to see if that helps or not.

did you work out how to fix this problem with vta been reading about editing the stepper settings but not sure if anyone has managed it?

What really helped for me is a full on ecu reset - parked the stepper and all that and really did leave it idle with everything off and then with every on.
I also increased my idle ignition values (which youve seen in your p&b's thread) and my vta bov is also very tightly preloaded.
Didnt touch the stepper settings in the end but did play around with idle values, 852, 900, 950 but I ended up reverting back to the oem 852 value.
What it does now is after dipping the clutch it drops to 1200rpm, and then a second or two later drops to 900 (its settles at 900 due to the ignition values in those idle load areas).
Its all good this end Im glad to say
Forgot to metion also, check your fuel pressure because mine was way way off!!!! (adjustable of course)
Oh thanks :D
Just few questions what do you mean by idle with everything off and then everything on?
How would I go about checking fuel pressure and what would I be looking for realy sorry to ask so many questions you been a great help!
