hi, name is Emmet, from ireland

have an evo 7 running autronics and a few little parts under the hood:tt2:.

but have bought an evo 1 in the past while which over the last month i got stuck into and got some nice bits for track use (carbotech pads, coilovers etc.) and with a bit of looking round i ordered an ostrich 2.0. so am here to learn as much as i can about self mapping.
Am fairly handy with a spanner, so this is the next step:p

Quite a few threads on here about Ostriches  If you get stuck or need a hand with anything then let me know as I know a little bit about them ;)

maybe am missing some thing, but i cant find anything that acually tells me what to change and in what way to change it...ie how to map the car

In order to be able to 'map' it you need to have a wideband lambda sensor and a set of det cans as a minimum really and ideally you should also have a datalogger of some sort.

As for what to change then there will be a very basic guide appearing on the forum shortly but my golden rules of datalog, datalog and then datalog some more are always a good starting point. If you get an idea as to what the datalogged information then means you can start to make small changes to things and see how they affect the logs and then you can see if things are better or worse. This is where experience comes into play in that once you have been doing it for a while you can speed up this process tremendously.

Which datalogger would you recommend Andy ?

I've got an IBM T23 laptop with XP Pro, a cable from Pete for his programmable ECU I've had for a couple of years which is USB from the Ostrich, a cable from limitless for Evoscan which connects from OBD1 to USB (the laptop recognised it but I didn't have a driver for it !) and also another cable fromm Pete which runs from OBD1 to the serial port.

However I am struggling to get a connection with any of them apart from the ECU with Tunerpro RT, but then I can't get anything back from the ALDL page (am I missing something here ?)

I've also tried TMOlogger and Evoscan but no success there either.

Am I better of with a palm pilot or similar, is there one you'd recommend and software ? Is there a colour one and which software works best ?

Sorry for all the questions but I had a frustrating afternoon sitting in the car with no joy and no datalogging !!!

Hi Jim,
I use a pocketlogger from www.pocketlogger.com as I went through a similar process to you in that I couldn't get anything to work via the PC.

I just use a Palm M100 which cost me £10 from ebay  It's in green/black though but I'm sure they must do colour ones that are compatible with the cable etc. Check out the pocketlogger website for compatible pocket pc things.

cheers Andy, I had looked at this site ages ago but didn't have any feedback from people about the thing working (same with the halo).

I'll take the plunge and buy one of these cables,... and a palm,.......and a hotsync cable.

When will it all end .....
