I use a Moates Ostrich ECU emulator that replaces the std chip in the ECU and then you can plug this into the laptop via a USB cable and read/write and modify the ROM from there.

Does this stay in or do you program the ecu and remove this cable??

The Ostrich will always stay connected to the ECU and then you just plug in your laptop when you want to tune.

Alternatively, you can use the Ostrich and laptop to perfect a tune and then burn it to a chip, meaning you can take out the Ostrich. In my opinion it's easier just to leave the Ostrich in there though.

I'm not sure Daniel as I've never used it because I use ECUFlash for the later Evo's.
