1) First open Ecuflash and select read from rom on the top toolbar, or ECU menu.
42
2) Select the year and model of the vehicle you are reading from.
43
3) Connect the flash cable to the OBD port and flash connector, then turn the ignition to the on position. One this is done select the OK button and the ECU should start to read.
45
4) The ECU starts to read the image from the ECU, progress bar should run from left to right at the bottom.
Should the ECU not respond to any known code, you may have to run ECU Unlocker (http://www.aktivematrix.com/forum/dload.php?action=file&file_id=13) before opening Ecuflash.
46
5) Once the ECU has finished reading, the righthand window will display interface close, and rom data will be displayed in the left window.
You may now turn the ignition off and remove the cable.

Good stuff gray. May i also congratulate you on a nice looking forum. :)
As a side - when i first started messing with ecuflash i got loads of problems like not having the right XML and it asking where to inherit from.
Can you put a little bit about the XML being like the instructions so ecuflash can understand what you have downloaded and what not.
Just, i was never that computer literate so i struggled a bit. I would write something myself but i might mess it up.

Here you go Jim,
I've just written it in the last 5 mins so it'll probably need some tarting up with lovely images etc but I'll get around to it ;)

The E6.5's can't be flashed at the moment and if you attempt to change anything then the likelihood is you will kill the ECU and it cannot be used anymore therefore don't try to change it.
The easiest option for now is to install a standard ECU from an Evo 6 GSR and use that.

Andy, since u mentioned above killing the ECU, can a standard 6 or 7 ECU be killed, the reason im asking is that I still cant read from both ECU, and have tried them on a E7 and an 8, but still nothing...mind you I have tried each and every possible thing mentioned over here and on other forums...nothing!

ecuunlocker....both 1.3 and 2.0 cables....both versions of ECUFLASH......i can log fine with evoscan, and the cable works fine on other cars.....but what is confusing me is that i have tried it on another 6...same prob...tried my 7RA on a 7...same prob...and bpth the 6 and 7 ecus are not accessible from my car...nor any other car as a matter of fact!
could it be that the voltage is low??

Select the last option and it will list a rom ID, you just require the an XML for the rom you have.

Mate, post your ROM up here, and I will see if I have an XML for it. However, if you look in the downloads section, there are XML's for most ROMs.

The ROM is what you are trying to open in EcuFlash (by the looks of it, one you have read off a car).
Simply read the ROM off the ECU as normal, save it somwhere and post it up on here.

Download the XML from here (http://www.geekmapped.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23) (2nd post), close EcuFlash, then put the XML into C:\Program Files\OpenECU\EcuFlash\rommetadata\mitsubishi\evo
Now open EcuFlash again and try to read your ROM. TBH, it should be identical to the one in the first post of that thread I linked to.

To upload a ROM, click the "Manage Attechements" button just under the box you are typing into. It will bring up a window that allows you to upload ROMs, logs, pics, etc.
EDIT: Beaten by Lee by just 1 minute!

Hello,
Well basically when i open EcuFlash 1.42 and when i click on the ECU column it opens 4 links,
Read From ECU
Write to ECU
Test Write to ECU
Compare to ECU
but they all are locked. Why is that?
When will it be accessible? and what Software should i use to tune a EVO 6.5 TME Rally-Art ECU.
Please Advice.
Thankx,
Cheers,
Ran-j
Do you have a tactrix open port 2.0 cable ?

nop im having a VAG 409.1 cable which was advised at Ceddy mods. where should i plug the cable in the car??
You need an open port 2.0 cable to read write.
I just copied this from the Ceddy web page..
Cable
The OpenPort 2.0 cable is needed for Flashing, and can be used for logging also.
The VAG 409.1 cables can be had on ebay for less then $20.
I often use one of these for logging because:
They’re cheap. Don’t worry about being broken or stolen.
They’re faster. Because it isn’t a Pass-Thru design, it is 10-20% faster then the OpenPort 2.0
They’re compatible, use same FTDI chip set as OpenPort 1.3. Just select OpenPort 1.3 in EvoScan
They’re rugged. I always worry about bumping my 2.0 cable and breaking it, or yanking the USB cable

what car have you got ?
under the dash drivers side you will see the 16pin odb11 plug (evo 4-9)
plug your op2 in there
then on the newer cars 789 there is a flash plug right beside it
or if its 5/6 the white plug taped to the loom just above the odb plug
pull it down and plug it in to the plug on the op2 cable
then open ecuflash and pull the rom from the car
start a new thread and post up your rom file, do not adjust any thing
you will need to log the car and post the logs up
then we will help you more
