Lads can you explain the hole map switching harness to me....where it connects and how it works? also where can i get it from?

Best thing to do, is have a read on Jack of Trades site.
I originally made 1 myself, with parts from maplins.
It worked ok, but was a bit tatty, so in the end I just bought 1 from him, took about 3 days to get here.
I changed the toggle switch for a small black push type, and fitted it in the little coin pocket, in the bottom part of the drivers side dash.
I mounted the LED at the top, so that it didn't lightup the interior at night, or blind me.
Nice and neat, and works a treat.

I think he is currently working on an updated version with more features though.

So it's just a 5V voltage regulator then that feeds the pin with 5V when switched?

It's set to a 5v absolute maximum.
I think mine is set to the default 3.01v
This is a very good bit of kit and have had 2 of them now and for the money its a no brainier and easy to fit.
Andy, Are you thinking you could make a few up ??
Cheers

There easy enough to make up, doesn't take that long.
But by the time you have bought the wiring (the expensive bit) and got hold of a spare ecu pin.
You are prob only saving about 3 quid.
Far easier to just order 1

Just had a look on the site, It says hes working on an improved version. How much did the orignal cost? I could make one easily enough but like people have said might as well just buy one.

Ant, if you want to make one up, it'll probably be quicker than waiting for the one Graham is going to send up for us :p :p
That way we can get yours as switchable pops and splutters

what exactly does it do to make the ecu switch maps??

Basically the ECU code is rewritten to say that when it sees 3V at that particular pin then use the alternate maps that are programmed into it.

Russ, careful you don't get contact bounce with the pushbutton. That's assuming you change maps while the engine is still running?
Are the same pins available and used on the V/VI ECU?

I'm going to have a crack at this myself. I have a VII ecu in my evo 6 are the pins above the same (26,42 & 82)

It's fine mate, as the switch is wired to the led, so I know which map it is running.
Also when you switch from stock to the alternate map, there is a 1.5 sec delay before the ecu switch's (this is user defined the rom, but it's for that very reason) and ontop of that there is a load default of 110% load (user adjustable again), so if your above that load (110% in my case) it will not switch map, until your below that threshold.

The diagram I posted is for a USDM 8 ecu, but the pins listed there are correct for the 7 ecu also.
However, you can just use pin 42 and then take power and ground from the back of your stereo if you wanted to (much easier, than working with the wiring in the footwell) and i've noticed no difference using it either way.

Cool, thanks mate.
I'm working on a new harness with a friend, probably build it on a small board in a small platic box. Then I can mount this wherever and its protected nice.

Hey Cossie could i just use my fog light switch as the trigger on my V gsr (7 ecu)?? i've taken my lights out and replaced with RS covers so this is spare....

I guess you could do it with that, if you can workout which of the pins is power and which is ground.
