View Full Version : How do I set up static rev limit?

Do I need a switch on the clutch to use this? Or does it activate the static limit when it sees no load, but lots of revs?
Cheers!

Cheers! :smile:Normally done using the input from the speed sensor.
Code normally reads along the lines of
If car is stationary then use x rpm for launch rev limit, if car is moving then use std rev limit.

The stock ecu, uses road speed as it's signal for using the static rev limit.
So (by default) if your under 16kmh/mph (might be less) then it will only rev to the limit set.
Once past that speed it will use full rev range.
But if you have launch control active and your speedo doesn't work correctly, then you will hit the launch limiter every time.

Ah, I see. So once I set static limit to any value below the engine rev limit, it'll start looking at the speed sensor all by itself? I.E. the rule is already programmed in, and I don't need to add it manually...?

assuming the ecu / rom has the routine in the code already
Evo 7 ecu's didn't so it's unlikely that the Evo 5 or 6 ecu's will have either.

can someone confirm if jdm 03 E8 gsr's had a clutch switch?
mine had the switch but was disconnected possibly? as i didn't have
to push in the clutch to start!
if you have the clutch switch i think the stationary rev limit may act as a 2 step under a certain speed?

You don't need the clutch switch for 2 step as the ECU uses speed input. The 2003 GSR should have a clutch switch for starting.

not needed agree but if it was there would it be 2 step? i.e as soon as the switch is made full revs are available
i just like to call it launch with no clutch switch and 2 step with

It's done on speed input Lee, not clutch position switch.

is the stationary rpm limit "speed to release" adjustable?
very very handy if so

It is, but I've only seen the adjustment in 2 roms.

does it get a fair few pops and bangs going sometimes?
or always just smooth rev cutting "nin nin nin nin nin nin nin" ??

Smooth cut rev limit unless you put -ve timing in the map cells you're hitting on the launch control limiter.

ah i had launch control on another car that only spark cut. if the manifold was red hot you'd get big pops and bangs if not just smooth cuts. from what i beleive when a spark cut happens that cylinders charge of fuel is unignited and when that charge exits the cylinder hitting the red hot manifold boooomm ????

Here is a quick vid of my launch control with the negative timing applied. It generates around 1.4bar when stationary :D

:tt1: andy i know you/we can do it like that but just wondered whats different about the control by the mitsi ecu rev limiter over a spark cut launch control system?

The mitsi rev limit is a spark cut rev limiter Lee.
Cutting the spark is different to my launch control/ALS code because I fire the spark when the exhaust valve is open so the fuel definitely ignites all the time in the manifold.

I thought the stock rev limiter, and the stock stationary rev limiter, was a fuel cut rev limit :confused1:

Not sure now Russ,
I'm *pretty* certain that the early cars, at least, have an ignition cut rev limit but I will check again tonight.
