I tell ya if I didnt have bad luck I'd have no luck at all.
I finally got my e3 on the road at the weekend after about a year. I got the ostrich around 5 months ago, I asked this guy to socket my ecu for me which he said "no problems i can do it". This was a so called profesional mapper ecu bloke who we sometimes use at work when our snap on diagnostic computer doesnt support a vehicle.
Now he did my ecu so as soon as I could I got it fitted to my car, connected up the ostrich and it didn't work, great. So I took my ecu back out and on a quick inspection found he had rubbed away part of the circuit board. So I gave him some abuse over the phone and sure enough he came out and repaired it for me.
I then took it home fitted it back to the car and sure enough it worked great. At that point my car was still having work done to get it back on road but every time I went to work on the car I'd make sure it started and run and occasionally, annoyed the neigbours with the anti lag and launch control popping away nicley lol. All seemed good, finally it was time for MOT so I took it in to work so I could put a ticket on it. Drove to work fine, better than ever great, car passed the MOT, took it back home and there it sat on the drive for another few weeks until I could afford to insure and tax it.
So this friday I got it taxed yey finally I could use the car, I got home from work, stuck tax in the window and went straight to shell for some v power again all good. Got home, parked up and come in waiting to go and pick the mrs up from work, so when the time come to pick her up I went out started the car fine sat in me buckets putiing me harness on and the CEL light comes on, starts running rough and totally dies, oh no sat there for 10 mins car turns over but wont start, ahhhhhhhggggrrrrrr was half 8 at night and pitch black so i jumped out and back to the proton daily driver bbboooooooo.
So I had a look today after work, I knew it had to be ecu related because lots of relays were clicking behind the dash, the same as when the numpty who socketed my ecu ****** it up, so I took it out and put my original chip back in (glad I kept it safe now lol ) and it started first turn of the key, so it was down to either the ostrich or the cable from it to the socket. Checked for continuity on the cable and all was fine, so I got my ostrich and connected it up to my lap top and clicked on tune pro and it never connected, so i clicked on the detect hardware icon and again came up no hard ware detected.
My conclusion is my ostrich has died. Why? I have no idea so im a bit gutted now I'll either have to buy a new one or see if moates will send me another under warrenty if there is any. Some times when things like this happen it makes me just want to get rid of it. Its been off the road more time than its been on it in the 3 years of owning it but theres a part of me that just wont let it go lol
